Thirumaliruncholai Arulmigu Kallazhagar Entry into the Vaigai River

Chitra Festival is the world's famous festival celebrated in Madurai every year. The festival starts with the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple and ends with the Azhagar arrival and return. Yes, Azhagar Festival is one of the part of the Chithirai Festival. The important part of the festival is that Lord Kallazhagar entry into the vaigai river. Another notable feature is that Lord Kallazhagar entry in the full moon day of tamil month of Chithirai which is called as "Chitra Pournami" (in tamil: சித்ரா பௌர்ணமி) or "Chitra Purnima".

What is the purpose of Lord Kallazhagar entry into vaigai river?
A great saint (Maharishi) was cursed as a frog and survived in the pond of Vandiyur near Madurai. Hence the Maharishi is called as "Manduga Maharishi". In order to remove the curse and bless the Manduga Maharishi, Lord Kallazhagar enter into the vaigai river and reach the vandiyur.
