Madurai Thiruparankundram Vaikasi Visakam Festival

Vaikasi Visakam (Vaigasi Visagam) is the festival celebrated in all six abodes of Lord Muruga / Subramanya Temples and the temples all around the world. This festival comes in the tamil hindu calendar month of Vaikasi in the star Visakam. Hence this festival is called as Vaikasi Visakam. Vaikasi Visakam falls on Friday, June 05, 2009. The notable feature of this festival is that Lord Subramanya took birth in this world. Lord Murugua is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati incarnated in this earth to demolish the devil Soorapadman and save the earth from the demons. At Madurai Thiruparankundram Subramaniya Temple, devotees take out procession carrying milk pots to perform Abhishekam to Lord on that day. Also, some devotees take kavadi on the day. Thousands of devotees visit Lord Muruga shrine on Vaikasi Visakam, especially at Tiruchendur and Thiruparankundram.

At Madurai Koodal Azhagar Temple, Lord Sridevi Bhoomadevi sametha Koodal Azhagar Perumal will take Chariot procession aka Car Festival on that auspicious day.

Lord Muruga is the Great Tamilian God and Thiruparankundram near Madurai Tamil Nadu is the Lord's first abode. A lot of thanks for the author of this blog for leaving great information about Vaikasi Visakam which is the prime festival of the temple.
